A New Era Begins in Southern Alberta

Updated: Dec 23, 2025

In June 2025, history was made in southern Alberta. SuperQ Quantum Computing Inc., Canada’s first publicly traded quantum company, partnered with Economic Development Lethbridge to launch the country’s first Quantum Super Hub at Tecconnect. What began as a bold vision, placing frontier computing power in the hands of businesses, educators, municipalities, and innovators, has quickly become a reality.

In just 90 days, the Lethbridge Quantum Super Hub has emerged as a living laboratory for the future of problem-solving. From municipal leaders testing smarter ways to plan services to healthcare providers modeling workforce schedules, and Indigenous communities exploring quantum’s role in local innovation, the Quantum Super Hub is showing that advanced computing is no longer the domain of elite labs and multinational giants.

Instead, it is accessible, practical, and rooted in community needs. It’s not about qubits or theory—it’s about solving real-world challenges faster, smarter, and more sustainably.

And what sets Lethbridge apart is not just being first; it’s the way this Hub has become a catalyst for innovation, education, and global collaboration. It has welcomed participants from across Alberta and around the world, generated millions of media impressions, and connected directly into a global network of Quantum Super Hubs stretching from Canada to the UAE and India.

Building Momentum – Local Impact in the First 90 Days

The Hub has quickly become a gathering place for bold ideas and practical applications:

  • Live demos have brought businesses, municipalities, and organizations face-to-face with the power of quantum-enhanced problem solving.

  • Municipal collaboration is underway to model smarter planning and service delivery, with early simulations showing significant potential savings for mid-sized operating budgets.

  • Education in action: A Master Class on July 30 attracted 117 participants from Canada, the U.S., UAE, India, and Finland, combining live demonstrations with hands-on problem modeling.

  • Students and educators are stepping into frontier technology early, positioning southern Alberta as a training ground for tomorrow’s workforce.

  • Indigenous communities and First Nations are exploring how quantum can support sovereignty, innovation, and sustainable development.

  • Healthcare pilots are modeling workforce scheduling to see how to reduce complexity in one of the province’s most strained sectors.

What emerges is a clear signal: quantum is not an abstract promise—it is a tool for today.

Real-World Impact: Early Case Studies

Municipal Planning

A local municipality is currently exploring new scenarios for waste collection routes. Using the Super platform, simulations that once required weeks of analysis are now completed in minutes. Early results suggest potential efficiency gains of 10% or more in fuel and labour—savings that can be redirected into community priorities.

Healthcare Workforce Scheduling

A regional healthcare provider is exploring solutions for streamlining staff scheduling through the Hub. By balancing dozens of variables such as availability, shift length, and patient demand, the platform can generate optimized rosters in under an hour. The result: time saved, stress reduced, and a stronger ability to align resources with patient care.

Agriculture Logistics

In partnership with Verge Ag, farm logistics are being reimagined. Early optimization models showed that small adjustments to delivery routes could significantly reduce both spoilage and fuel costs during harvest season. These are insights with the power to transform not only margins but also sustainability practices.

Each of these “lighthouse projects” is more than a pilot. They are proof points and tangible examples of how quantum can shift the way communities, companies, and industries approach their most complex decisions.

From Lethbridge to the World – Global Recognition

While the Hub is proudly rooted in Alberta, its impact has already reached far beyond provincial borders:

  • At IEEE Quantum Week 2025, SuperQ presented alongside IBM and Microsoft, placing Alberta on the global quantum stage providing highlights about the first Quantum Super Hub in Lethbridge.

  • Within weeks of the Lethbridge launch, new hubs were announced in the UAE and India, embedding Alberta into an international web of innovation.

  • Membership in FABrIC, Canada’s $223M semiconductor and quantum innovation network, further cemented SuperQ as a national leader.

  • With 55.9 million media impressions in just 90 days, Lethbridge is now seen worldwide as a “gateway city for applied quantum.”

This is not just about technology adoption—it’s about shaping how the world sees Alberta.

Why It Matters – A Blueprint for Communities Everywhere

The Lethbridge Quantum Super Hub is more than a showcase of technology. It is a blueprint for democratizing access to frontier tools. By anchoring advanced computing in a community setting, the Hub is:

  • Driving economic diversification in agriculture, logistics, energy, healthcare, and finance.

  • Strengthening regional ecosystems, proving that world-class technology can thrive outside of major cities.

  • Building talent pipelines for students, professionals, and entrepreneurs eager to work at the edge of innovation.

  • Connecting Alberta globally, with every hub tied directly into SuperQ’s growing international network.

This is technology leadership built on inclusivity and ensuring that communities of all sizes can participate in shaping the quantum future.

The Road Ahead – Scaling the Super Hub Model

The first 90 days have proven the concept. Now, the path forward is clear:

  • Across Alberta: The Lethbridge model can be replicated with other Regional Innovation Networks (RINs), ensuring quantum access in every region.

  • Across Canada: Partnerships with polytechnics and innovation zones can bring Super Hubs to campuses and communities nationwide.

  • Across the world: Alberta’s hubs are directly tied into a global network spanning Canada, the UAE, and India—with Europe and the U.S. on the horizon.

Every new hub strengthens the network, multiplies the use cases, and accelerates the democratization of quantum.

Get Involved – Be Part of the Movement

The Lethbridge Quantum Super Hub is more than a milestone—it’s an invitation. We welcome communities, businesses, and innovators to join this global wave:

  • Open Your Own Quantum Super Hub: Bring the model to your region and join the global network of Super Hubs.

  • Connect Globally: Collaborate with innovators from Canada, the UAE, India, and beyond.
